
The Art of Storytelling - Workshop for Adults
Good storytelling engages audience members, stimulates their imaginations and helps develop their listening skills. Lets Do Something along with World Storytelling Institute is organizing a Storytelling Workshop on Saturday 26 November. The Workshop would help teachers to gain an appreciation of the potential of storytelling in various educational contexts, and expose teachers to numerous storytelling skills and techniques.

The Workshop would help you to gain an appreciation of the potential of storytelling in various educational as well as corporate contexts, and expose you to numerous storytelling skills and techniques (which could be used by both teachers and their students). In this Workshop, we will especially be working with traditional stories, stories based on personal experiences,and stories we create.
We would also be organizing optional follow-up sessions once-a-month to discuss the progress, refine the skills and explore additional techniques and stories.

The World Storytelling Institute facilitates training in, performance of, and discussion
about, forms of storytelling. Dr Eric Miller is the Director and Co-Founder. He
specialises in storytelling for/by/with adults. Dr Eric is a native New Yorker,
transplanted to Chennai.
About Dr Eric Miller
Dr. Eric Miller is originally from New York City. He has settled in Chennai, where he co-
founded the World Storytelling Institute (WSI) in 2007. He has directed the WSI since its
inception. The WSI's mission is to facilitate research and discussion about, training in,
and performance of, forms of storytelling.
Dr. Eric was trained in storytelling by a number of professional storytellers in NYC, including
Laura Simms and Diane Wolkstein. He earned a PhD in Folklore from the University of
Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) in 2010.
He has taught courses in Storytelling, Acting, Public Speaking, Creative Writing, and Non-
fiction Writing at St. John's University, Fordham University, and New York University (all in
NYC); and at the Image College of Animation (in Chennai).
In and around Chennai, Dr Eric has led Storytelling Workshops for teachers at numerous
schools, including the Sri Vidhya Academy International Residential School; Chennai Public
School; A School; Kid's Central; Kendriya Vidyalaya at IIT-Madras; and Prasan Vidya
Mandir, in Chenglepet. In Mumbai, he has conducted Storytelling Workshops for the
English Dept of the University of Mumbai, and for a school-outreach team of the comic book
publisher, Amar Chitra Katha.
